Acidic drinks such as
fruit tea or flavored water can attack the enamel and damage the teeth, say
researchers at King's College in London. It should be particularly harmful
to consume these drinks between meals.
► The British
Dental Journal study evaluated the dietary habits of 300 people suffering from
severe tooth wear. Conclusion: The more people snack in between, the
greater the corresponding dental problems.
Study leader Dr Saoirse O'Toole: "Drinking for more than five
minutes or drinking with your mouth in the mouth or nibbling on fruit for long
periods of time can really damage your teeth."
The researchers
found that people who drank water with lemon or hot flavored fruit tea twice
daily between meals had an eleven-fold higher risk of moderate or severe tooth
erosion. Halved the risk if the drinks were consumed with meals. Also
vinegar or pickled food can favor tooth erosion.

The Germans love herbal
tea more than fruit tea
Whether chamomile, peppermint or fennel:
Germans love herbal tea. According to a recent study by the market
research firm Nielsen, herbal tea was clearly ranked among the popularity scale
of consumers in 2017 with fruit tea and black tea.
According to Nielsen, the Germans spent around eight euros on tea
per capita in food retailing and in drugstores in 2017. That was enough
for five packs. "Although tea sales and sales are declining slightly,
they have remained relatively stable over the last few years," said
Nielsen expert Michaela Ebsen.
When making tea, most
people like it easy. They prefer to buy tea bags. About 80 percent of
the tea is consumed in this way. Only by a long distance follows second
loose tea. When buying tea, the German citizens pay attention to the
price. They prefer to head for the discounter.
